Mrs. Hanan Hamdan has been the Head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Liaison Office in the State of Kuwait since July 2010, during her presence, Mrs. Hamdan worked on promoting UNHCR mandate, advocating for the rights of persons of concern, building and strengthening the strategic partnerships with the State of Kuwait and international institutions in response to the evolving humanitarian crisis in the region. Born and raised in Lebanon, Mrs. Hamdan attained her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Studies and Public Administration from the American University of Beirut, and then moved to the United Kingdom in 1991 to pursue an MA in International Conflict Analysis and a PhD in International Relations specializing in Refugee Studies from the University of Kent, Canterbury. During her experience with UNHCR and prior to her port in Kuwait, Mrs. Hamdan worked in a number of different posts including Geneva, Cairo, Beirut, Algeria, Baghdad and Amman.
